  It shall be the purpose of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists to advance, promote and support the practice of the medical specialty of Anesthesiology in the State of Texas.

  The TSA is a voluntary, non-profit association of over 3,800 members interested in the medical specialty of Anesthesiology and it is a component of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

  TSA provides CME programs; advocates at the legislative, regulatory and legal arenas; and through its representation at the ASA, TMA, and AMA, it insures that TSA’s voice is heard at the state and national levels.

The TSA’s Purpose Statement is: “It shall be the purpose of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists to advance, promote, and support the practice of the medical specialty of Anesthesiology in the State of Texas.” I want to note that the TSA is doing this because we believe it is best for “Patient Safety.” In our new logo, you will see that we included “Physicians for Patients” to emphasize Patients. Therefore, promoting patient safety will be a guiding principle for me when making decisions.

  Dr. Abouleish was a pioneer in modern obstetrical anesthesia. In fact, he was the first to perform labor epidural analgesia at Magee by placing a labor epidural catheter on his wife for the birth of their third child.
  
  He pioneered this technique, teaching not only his residents, but also his peers, and eventually became one of the first to introduce the combined spinal epidural (CSE) technique into clinical practice.
  
  He is remembered fondly for his big smile, his keen sense of humor and his unwavering dedication to patients and resident education.
